Historic Storm: Record Snowfall

Well folks, if you spent your Sunday morning wondering where your driveway went, you weren’t alone. That storm we had this past weekend (January 24–25) sure didn't pull any punches, and it looks like it’ll be one for the history books around here.

In Dayton, we didn't just get a "good dusting"—we saw a piece of history. The National Weather Service officially recorded 12.4 inches of snow at the airport in a single day on Sunday. That actually nudged past the 12.2-inch mark set way back during the legendary Blizzard of '78. It's officially the snowiest single day Dayton has seen since they started keeping track.

Now, for those of us right here in Crystal Lakes, we definitely got the "better" end of that deal, depending on how much you like shoveling. We got hammered with about 11 to 12 inches total (some say more). Just down the road, Springfield saw a solid 11.2 inches reported just north of town.

It’s a lot of the white stuff to move, that's for sure. But hey, on the bright side, it’s a great excuse to stay in, keep the coffee pot running, and let the kids burn off some energy in the drifts. Just be sure to check on your neighbors and take it slow if you have to head out on the roads!
